St. Peter's Square (Piazza Pio XII) is the huge square located directly
in front of St. Peter's Cathedral in Vatican City. The square was designed by Bernini
in the mid 17th century and is surrounded by huge Doric columns. The
square is sometimes used for addresses given by the Pope.
